Why: The property has been owned by the same Venetian family from the 10th century; has an 11th century castle and two chapels set within the park.  It also has a private museum with works by the leading Czech artist Stepan Zavrel and memorabilia from this cosmopolitan family.
A selection of their ancestors include the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus; the explorer Pietro di Brazzà Savorgnan – founder of the current African country of Congo Brazzaville; the American philanthropist Cora Slocomb; the Grand Admiral Tirpitz of the German Imperial Navy, General Alessandro Pirzio-Biroli of the Abyssinian, Greek and Montengrean campaigns and his daughter Eugenia, who founded a city in Chile.
As well as the well-known artist and student of Canova, Ascanio di Brazzà, and his wife Giacinta Simonetti, who alone was descended from two Doges of Venice.
